The American Urogynecologic Society has published an article recently about some of the recent media coverage around mesh injuries. In their article, they state that the media has been reporting on certain cases regarding pelvic floor repairs that have not gone as well as anticipated. They further state that it is important that all physicians inform their patients of all their options as clearly as possible and receive clear consent from the patient before carrying out any treatment. The AUGS’ official position on mesh implants is that they may be the best option for a patient, but this depends on each patient and that all patients must always be presented with a range of options that best suits them.
We here at Southern Urogynecology offer a wide range of treatments and therapies for patients with pelvic floor disorders, and we are always happy to go over them to help patients decide what the best course of action is, depending on their desired health outcomes and circumstances.
