A vaginoplasty is a procedure that tightens the vagina by removing excess vaginal lining, tissue, and tightening the muscles of the vagina. This helps to increase sensitivity and even satisfaction during intercourse. There are cosmetic and medical reasons for vaginoplasties, depending on your needs and stage of your life.
Where a vaginoplasty differs from a labiaplasty is in the specific part of the body being targeted. The vagina is a canal-shaped muscle from the cervix to the body opening, whereas the labia are skin folds that protect the vaginal opening itself. An oversized labium, where folds can extend great lengths in certain situations, is an issue seen in many women. This can lead to many issues, including discomfort from tearing, pain during intercourse, and even self-esteem issues over the appearance.
A treatment option would be simply to remove the protruding parts of the labia through surgery, or laser treatments.
Sometimes, a combination of a vaginoplasty and labiplasty would be preferable over just one or the other.
