Your Surgery

At Southern Urogynecology, we do everything possible to make your surgery experience as comfortable and as easy as possible. The following quick points will help us make that a reality.

The night before surgery

DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING, EVEN WATER, AFTER MIDNIGHT. You may brush your teeth, but be careful not to swallow any water.

The day of surgery
An anesthesiologist will meet with you in the hospital or surgery center on the day of your surgery.

1. Lexington Medical Center will call you several days before surgery to inform you what time to report to the hospital. If you have1. questions about directions or parking, please call the hospital at 803-791-2000.
Generally, you will need to plan to arrive 1 1/2 to two hours prior to your scheduled surgery time.

2. Lexington-Irmo Ambulatory Surgical Center: If you have questions about directions or parking for that facility, please call 803-749-0977. Once again, plan to arrive 1 1/2 to 2/ hours prior to surgery.

3. Parkridge Outpatient Surgery:

4. Palmetto Health Richland: you will have a “pre-operative” appointment at the hospital about 10 days before your surgery. Plan

to arrive 2 hours before your scheduled surgery time the day of your procedure.

Your hospital stay
Most of our patients have outpatient surgery or a brief one- or two-day hospitalization. We encourage you to return to your home

environment as soon as possible. It is there that you will sleep and eat better, which is important to your recovery.

After surgery
You will be receiving post-operative instructions for the initial two weeks after your surgery. If you have not already scheduled your two-week post-operative appointment, call the office to set that appointment. You will also need a check up at six to eight weeks post-operatively, which you can schedule at the two-week visit. Our staff will determine if any subsequent visits are necessary.
